I couldn't get a plumber over so I just installed it myself. The instructions were very good, easy to follow. The unit is doing a great job softening our well water. Looking forward to no more white mineral buildup on our plumbing fixtures!

Seems to be working. App sucks.

Water is soft. Install wasn't bad, but the valve control module took some extra finesse. One annoyance is that the lid to the salt basic in loose and not sealed quite as snugly as you'd expect. But the biggest problem is the Smart HQ app that is supposed to control the unit. After day 3 I can't do anything but open the app. If I click anything the app shuts down. The recommendation from GE support was to download the Comfort-GE app instead of the Smart HQ app, but it does the same thing. Further inquiries with GE support yielded this reply: "The app team is aware of the issue and working on a fix. Please be on the lookout for any updates to the app. Thanks, Ian Tier 2 Tech Support GE Appliances | Connected Home" Assuming that the app would work I could rate the overall experience better. However, the poorly developed telematics and inadequate support land me at 2/5 stars.

Not that smart, but soft water

It's a solid water softener. A few weeks in and (besides the app crashing until there was a new update) no problems. The area where I live has some of the hardest water in the USA, so I'm happy to have soft water now. Though I think the hard water tasted a little better. The only "smart" features are that you can shut off water to your water softener, it tells you water usage of previous days, and it tells you the estimate of when you should refill with salt. There is sadly no way to adjust any of the settings from the app. Being able to remotely shut off water is probably a good thing in an emergency.

Went bad in 16 months

Space saving design, less guess-work

Although the middle/top blue piece arrived damaged, it appears to be cosmetic and shouldn't affect the functionality of the unit. That said, I'd recommend picking up a product like this in-store rather than have it shipped if possible. The packaging is obviously inadequate to withstand the rigors of retail shipping. Having it connected to the smart phone app is a neat feature to help you keep on top of the salt level.

Great Machine for the Money!!

Our water is so atrocious that I don't think that we could drink it without our water softener! I let it run out of salt and almost immediately you could tell the difference that this device makes. I enjoy the fact that I can interface with it through my phone and that it sends detected leaks (in my case it was a hose running, watering the garden) to my phone too.

The app lets me know when it's time to add salt and if it detects a water leak, (even when we are away from home) I can turn off the water to my home. Seriously, this water softener is Awesome! Why is the 1" threaded NPT adapter not included? You're including the shutoff valve with no way to attach it. Had to go to Lowe's and Home Depot only to find both brass and PVC adapters leak since there's no washers provided either. Had to use Teflon tape and screw it in really tight to stop a leak.

This this water softener works great and softens the water accurately. But the only but is that I can not get the Smart system working to check out everything through Wi-Fi. It just won't connect no matter what I do. I spent a lot of time online trying to figure out what other people have done and nothing helps. Regardless, it still keeps on softening the water.
